Corporate identity essay
Introduction
In this essay I will be writing about the corporate identity theory of E4. It will be based on how the corporate identity is important and what it is. I will write why it is important to have a god corporate identity and how it is effective.
Corporate Identity Theory
Corporate identity is what a business uses to show everyone who they are and what they are about. For example big companies have their own type of logo such as McDonalds. Everyone knows McDonalds for the yellow French fry big curly ‘M’. Corporate identity is one of the main things in the business to make others recognise them for what they are and who they are. It is a noticeable way to show off the company such as bright logos. Corporate identity saves people wondering what the company does and what it is about. The importance of a good corporate identity can be very high because it is how customers and other customers judge them. If another business has a better corporate identity it may lead to them losing customers to their main competition.
Corporate Design
My channel is E4 that I am doing for my corporate identity. E4 is a channel aimed at 16-34 year olds, which is a rather young target audience. Therefore the corporate identity is a brighter colour (purple). The E4 logo is a white ‘E’ with a purple 4 around it. Anyone who watches E4 would remember this identity because it is unique to their own channel. The colour of this is important. As E4 is a comedy type channel and aimed at a younger target audience, they have used purple because it is more of a fun colour. However, BBC1 uses red and the font is more sophisticated because it is a completely different type of channel, which has a different target audience. The E4 logo is very similar to a type of bubble writing. This type of audience can relate to when they were a bit younger and first started drawing in bubble writing for fun. This represents that E4 can be more of a fun type of channel. The design of the corporate identity helps to brand themselves in all forms of marketing.
Corporate Communication
“Corporate communication is a set of activities involved in managing and orchestrating all internal and external communications aimed at creating favorable point of view among stakeholders on which the company depends. It is the messages issued by a corporate organization, body, or institute to its audiences, such as employees, media, channel partners and the general public.”

E4 brand itself in many different ways. For example they host a festival called ‘underbelly’ festival hosted in Southbank. It is a comedy festival and will bring customers to watch this channel after. A lot of the customers will watch E4 after 9pm because of the watershed. The watershed is after 9pm because it is when channels can show more mature themes such as nudity, violence and swearing etc. This will attract more of the older viewers over 16 because it is more mature and suits there age so it is more comical. Public relations can help the reputation of the company. If the company or channel has a good reputation it will gain more customers bringing more money in to the business. E4 also brand themselves on YouTube before a video with a 15 second advertisement video.
Corporate Behaviour
Corporate behaviour is the behaviour of company and how they choose to represent and run themselves. Internal values are who the company are and what they stand for. The ‘E’ for E4 stands for Entertain. Therefore their target is to entertain the public and have good television shows on their channel. E4 will be different in the way they behave to other channels such as the BBC. BBC are also to entertain customers but in a more sophisticated way. “Corporate behaviour is the behaviour of an organisation when considered as a single body. The behaviour of an organisation is influenced by the arrangements for its ownership and control. When the owner(s) appoint agents to manage the organisation, conflicts of interest arise which are studied as the principal–agent problem.
